Chucks and Jaws

More than thirty-five years ago, Axminster produced and marketed one of the world’s first four jaw self centering chucks for woodturners. Over the years, much of the development has come from the feedback and input of professional woodturners. With over three decades of experience in production and design, Axminster believes these latest chucks are the very best on the market today. Manufacturing of the chucks, jaws and accessories is done entirely in Axminster. Choose from the 80mm or 100mm Clubman chucks for all lathes to the massive 114mm Evolution for larger lathes. Over 40 chuck jaws are available and are interchangeable between the entire range of chucks.

Drive Centers

The most basic of the woodturner’s needs, Axminster's drive centers are designed to give good penetration in the workpiece for consistent driving and able to hold a good edge during extended use. In a nutshell, there are three Morse tapers commonly in use in the headstocks and tailstocks of woodturning lathes - 1MT, 2MT and 3MT. The drives are offered in a range of diameters so that working close to the drive end is not a problem, even when working on small diameter pieces. Don’t forget that some lathes have different tapers in the headstock and tailstock.

Tailstock Centers

The tail center provides support for spindle work mainly - in the tailstock.
As with Axminster's other centers, the live revolving centers are produced in their own CNC engineering workshop, giving them complete control over both quality and design. It is their aim to manufacture from the best materials and use top grade bearings enabling them to offer centers of unrivalled value for money. Axminster offers traditional tailstock centers, as well as their unique Multi-tip Centers.

Faceplates and Faceplate Rings

Turning bowls? Leave the chuck on your lathe and enjoy quick changeovers.
Made to match the A, B, C and F dovetail jaws, these rings do away with the need for a separate faceplate on which to mount a bowl blank prior to turning the outside. Simply screw the ring to the chosen blank with woodscrews and expand the dovetail jaws into the recess in the center of the ring.

Modular and Standard Tool Rests

Check out Axminster's line of modular tool rests. The simple design of a stainless steel bar forms the perfect tool rest, overcoming the drawbacks of standard tool rests and with some additional benefits.
The tool glides smoothly along the length of the rest. The round profile gives more control when changing the angle of the tool in the vertical plane. Stainless steel means corrosion and rust are a thing of the past. Rests are available in three lengths and the posts in four diameters. A mounting plate for tool posts is also available. More post lengths and diameters will be available soon.

Pen Making Tools

If you are looking for the highest quality pen mandrel available, you will want to choose the Axminster compression mandrel. Operating in a different way to other mandrels, the prepared pen blanks are located on the shaft with any bushings that may be required. The included hollow revolving center is then simply moved into position over the shaft. When the tailstock quill is tightened, it is the blank and bushings that are held in compression and not the shaft as with conventional mandrels. The result is improved concentricity and less vibration during turning. Length adjustment is unnecessary. Made in the U.K.
